Proposed registration changes
The civil registration system is a vital service which
has impact on everyone at some point in their lives. As
registration law and regulations have changed very little over the
last 169 years no one can deny that the case for change is a
compelling one.
Whilst the case for modernisation is clear, the registration
service has a long tradition of providing a personal, face-to-face
service at life's most important stages, which is often a source of
comfort to its customers.
We must, therefore, embrace change but be sure to retain and
develop those elements of our service that people value most - a
personal service that is both efficient and inclusive, delivered to
the community.
A
National Modernisation programme is currently underway to
ensure that working practices and technological support meet
the needs of the 21st Century.
