Obtaining certificates

How to apply for a birth, death, marriage or civil partnership certificate

The records for births, deaths, marriages and civil partnerships which occurred in the Peterborough area are held at Peterborough Register Office and the certificates issued are certified copies of these records. To obtain a certified copy of an entry applications can be made either in person or by post. Orders over the telephone (supported by a credit/debit card) can be taken but these are subject to a £1 surcharge.

The boundaries of Peterborough registration district coincide with those of Peterborough City Council, but boundaries have changed over the years and a telephone call may be necessary to establish which Register Office you should apply to.

Certificates applied for in person will usually be available for collection within 24 hours. Certificates applied for by telephone or post will normally be posted out on the day of receipt.

For information about obtaining birth certificates for persons who have been adopted please refer to Adoption Information section.
