Renewal of vows ceremonies
This ceremony is for any married couple or civil partners who
wish to celebrate renewing their vows in a unique and personal
non-religious ceremony.
Often these ceremonies are associated with a special
anniversary, such as the tenth, twenty-fifth, etc. but the ceremony
is just as appropriate for couples at any stage of marriage or
civil partnership. It is sometimes relevant to those who have been
through a period which has put a strain on their relationship, but
who wish to celebrate their renewed commitment to each other.
They are for any married or civil partnership couple of any
age. It is not necessary to live in the area in which the ceremony
is to be held. Also it is not necessary to choose the same venue as
the original marriage or civil partnership, although this is often
a consideration.
In Peterborough ceremonies can be held at the register office and at other approved venues which
are already licensed by Peterborough City Council for civil
marriage ceremonies. The fees are as follows:
2007
| Monday - Friday | £150 |
| Saturday |
£200
|
| Sunday |
£200
|
There are no additional fees for ceremonies at the register
office, but for ceremonies at other venues there may be additional
charges for room hire, catering etc.
Neither the renewal of vows ceremonies nor any document issued
following the ceremony has any legal effect and is not legally
binding on those who participate. A celebrant will conduct the
ceremony, but he/she will not be acting in an official capacity as
a registration officer.
In addition it is possible for a couple who are already
married to each other to marry again in accordance with the law.
This may be considered if there is reason to doubt the validity of
the first marriage.
A marriage or civil partnership certificate must be
produced when booking a ceremony.
