House Doctor- Central Ward of Peterborough
Abdul Q. Malik is the House Doctor for Central Ward in
Peterborough. The project is a part of Peterborough
Healthy Living Partnership project. The partners are Peterborough
City Council, North Primary Care Trust and Voluntary Organisations,
and the project is focused on promoting and providing opportunities
for Health in the Central and East wards of Peterborough.
The aim of the partnership is to work closely with the
community in identifying priorities and building a community that
is welcoming and supportive for all. Community involvement is a
vital ingredient in the success of the healthy living partnership
and the project is focused on supporting residents in both wards in
developing new skills and expertise through a focus on
volunteering, training and employment opportunities.
The House Doctor will be supporting homeowners by
- facilitating training workshops on home and garden maintenance
- providing advice and information to access a range of services to resolve their home & safety issues
- continuous mentoring and support to encourage residents to tackle regular home maintenance
- facilitating training workshops for those residents who wish to become volunteers to help other residents in tackling home maintenance & safety issues
- producing information on home safety & home maintenance to enable residents to increase their awareness
- setting up a tool library for residents to borrow tools to undertake home maintenance

referral or at the resident's request - with a view to
- Conducting an inspection and making an initial assessment on home safety and maintenance
- Making a diagnosis of what residents need to tackle, and how
- If necessary providing mentoring, support and training
- Providing advice and information to access other benefits or grants, if applicable
- Offering follow-up visits until the home maintenance work is completed
- Making referrals to other agencies if requested
