DEATH OF COUNCILLOR RAY POBGEE
It is with great sadness we announce the death of Councillor Ray
Pobgee (Ward Councillor for Dogsthorpe).Councillor Pobgee was delivering a speech at the meeting of
full council last night (7 April 2005) when he suffered a
heart attack and died, despite the best efforts of
paramedics.
Chief Executive Gillian Beasley said: "This city has lost a
man who dedicated himself to public service in all aspects of his
life. He died making a speech about something he was most
passionate about, the education of young people. There will
be many tributes to Ray's life and the significant contribution he
made. I worked with Ray when he was Mayor of this city, as a
leading councillor and in his role as Deputy Lieutenant.
Those years were some of the most rewarding times of my life and I
was privileged to share with him two truly outstanding terms as
Mayor of this city.
"On a personal level I am naturally devastated, but my
thoughts today are with his wife, son and daughter, their spouses
and his grandchildren whose fortitude at this time has been a real
inspiration to me.
"This is a sad day for us all and this city. We have
lost a truly inspirational man whose contribution, enthusiasm and
passion for this city will be missed by those of us who were
fortunate enough to know him and many people in Peterborough who
have benefited from his work."
Ends.
