Householders Recycling Centres
Peterborough City Council is responsible for
the Householders Recycling Centre (HRC), at Welland Road,
Dogsthorpe.
Although this site is an outlet for the
disposal of waste items, the emphasis is on recovery with 60 -
70 per cent of materials being recovered or recycled. The site
only accepts household waste. The deposit of commercial or trade
waste is illegal and the council will seek to identify and where
possible prosecute those caught offending.
The maximum penalty for the deposit or
disposal of waste at the site which is not household waste is, on
conviction at a magistrates court a £50,000 fine and/or 6
months imprisonment, or by crown court an unlimited fine and/or
five years imprisonment.
The site accepts glass, garden waste, clean
rubble for recycling, household furniture and electrical goods, and

not accept vehicle tyres or cement bonded asbestos.

Asbestos disposal
Asbestos cannot be accepted at Dogsthorpe HRC due
to the European Landfill Directive that came into force August
2004. Under this directive the HRC at Welland Road and at Thorney
are no longer authorised to accept any asbestos waste. Peterborough
City Council offers a chargeable collection service for the legal
disposal of cement bonded asbestos. Please call Peterborough Direct for
further information or refer to a local telephone directory to
locate an authorised commercial disposal company.
