Supporting People Five Year Strategy (2005 - 2010)

Foreword by Commissioning Body Chair

The publication of the Peterborough Supporting People Five Year strategy is the conclusion of 18 months collaboration between our partners the Greater Peterborough Primary Care Partnership and Cambridgeshire Probation Service stakeholders, service providers and service users. We would like to thank all those people who participated in Focus Groups, Fora and service user consultation which provided us with invaluable data and information throughout the development period of the strategy, and during the consultation period gave their comments to better focus document.

The resulting document will drive forward the Supporting People programme over the next five years and set the foundations for the supported housing sector beyond 2010.

Peterborough is a growing, evolving and thriving City and thus the Supporting People strategy is not a static document. To ensure that the document continues to be relevant, we will review and refine it on an annual basis. The planned increase in housing both locally and regionally and the regeneration of the City centre will change the population profile and therefore the needs of the residents. We must monitor and plan for the potential housing related support needs of those being released from our new prison. We have an aging population and we must address the particular needs of our elders to ensure they can remain independently in the housing of their choice. We are a multi-cultural city and we must ensure that access to appropriate housing is available to all.

There are challenging times ahead for the Supporting People Team and the sector as a whole. Using this document as a starting point, we are confident that we can reach our goal of providing appropriate housing related support to all vulnerable people in order that they can remain independent in the community in the housing of their choice which best fits their individual needs.
