A Regional Spatial Strategy (RSS) provides a broad development framework for a region over a period of 20 years or more.

 

It is issued by the Secretary of State for Communities and Local Government following the preparation of a draft version by the relevant regional association of local authorities and a public examination.

 

Peterborough is situated within the East of England Region.

 

A new Regional Spatial Strategy for the East of England (the " East of England Plan") was published in May 2008.
