GARDENING EXPERT VISITS ST THOMAS MORE PUPILS' BLOOMING SUCCESS
Adam Pasco, editor of Gardeners' World magazine, will visit
green fingered pupils at St Thomas More School, Park Lane,
Eastfield, Peterborough, to check out their school garden and give
advice about composting and planting during national compost week
tomorrow (Wednesday 4 May) at 2.15pm.
Peterborough City Council provided pupils at the school with a
composter and advice on how to use it in September 2004, enabling
them to prepare their own compost and plant bulbs in their school
garden.
Adam will tour the school garden and answer any questions the
children may have about composting and planting in general.
Adam said, "I am looking forward to seeing the gardening
achievements of the pupils. It is very important that children are
made aware of the importance of protecting and improving their
future environment."
Head teacher, Anne-Marie McElhinney, said, "We are delighted
that such an expert as Adam Pasco is visiting our school garden
during national compost week. His visit can only endorse the
importance of educating children about composting by getting them
actively involved."
Kirsty Martin, Environmental Management Education and Campaign
Officer for the city council, said, "Recycling to protect the
environment is becoming a key part of our everyday routine, both at
home and in the work place.
"It is therefore great that teachers at our local schools are
introducing the key aspects of recycling into the school
curriculum, enabling pupils to be forward thinking about their
future in an active way."
Ends.
