Message from Council Leader John Peach
The days are getting shorter and there is a nip in the air,
which can only mean one thing, winter is with us.
There will be a buzz of activity in the city centre in the
weeks to come. Saturday 15 November sees the switch on of the Christmas lights at 5.30 pm. The event
will be a real family affair, with the Snow Queen and her elf
helper walking through the crowds, just one of the many
attractions.
If you are looking for some interesting
ideas for your festive shopping, then why not visit the Victorian Christmas market from Wednesday
3 to Friday 5 December and again from Wednesday 17 to Friday 19
December. You can also enjoy the real taste of Italy at the Italian
market from Wednesday 10 to Friday 12 December. The leaves may no longer be green, but you have helped us to
achieve one of the highest recycling rates of any unitary council.
We also have one of the highest ratios of green space per person in
the country. As part of our ongoing commitment to becoming the UK's
Environmental Capital, we now want to build on this success by
offering you more sustainable transport choices and better access
to green spaces. We are also working towards being recognised as a
centre of environmental excellence for green businesses, creating
more jobs in the city and more employment opportunities for
all.
