The Boardwalks - local nature reserve

Alongside the river Nene at Thorpe Meadows, this reserve contains ponds, marsh, grassland, scrub and willows.

The reserve is rich in wildlife and easliy accessible from the city centre.

The Boardwalks was declared a Local Nature Reserve in 1991.

Although a valuable wildlife site for many years, the site has existed in its current form since 1995. At this time, most of the pools were dug, plants introduced, trees and bushes planted, and the central paths constructed.
