Education
The Road Safety Team works in partnership with many different
organisations in bringing new road safety initiatives to nurseries,
primary and secondary schools, colleges and community groups across
the Peterborough area. Partnerships include
- Trucks And Road Safety (TACS) - an interactive demonstration by Perkins Exel of the dangers trucks pose to children.
- What's the Cost? - a programme delivered with the Youth Services Team which tackles how attitudes and behaviour towards road safety are influenced by peer pressure.
- Theatre in Education - an excellent medium for delivering road safety messages to pupils at all levels. The workshop that follows the performance enables the audience to explore the road safety issues raised in the production.
A selection of resources is available to assist with the
delivery of key road safety messages. These include:
- Toyboxes that can be borrowed by nurseries from the PlayStore in Paston. Contact the PlayStore directly on 01733 579554.
- Activity packs for Cubs and Brownies to assist with their Road Safety badge.
- Videos and CD-Roms.
- Educational sessions that can be delivered by the Road Safety Team to a target group to address particular issues and to support road safety initiatives in schools.
- Lesson plans, games and screensavers which can be downloaded from www.hedgehogs.gov.uk and http://www.thinkroadsafety.gov.uk/arrivealive/
An annual literature distribution is undertaken to all
nurseries, primary and secondary schools, which includes
information for teachers, pupils and parents covering various
aspects of road safety. For further information on resources please
contact the Road Safety Team on (01733) 453417.
