Young Drivers
Among young people road crashes are by far the most common
cause of accidental death. A 17-year-old male driver is seven times
more likely be involved in a road collision than any other
group.
Young drivers, aged 17-25 years, are tragically
over-represented in the road casualty statistics. Whilst the
overall number of people killed or seriously injured in road
traffic collisions on Peterborough's roads fell by 5% last year,
the number of young drivers rose by 7% to 30% of the total.
The 'For My Girlfriend' campaign uses a graphic crash
reconstruction to bring home to young drivers the potentially
tragic consequences of driving too fast. The campaign is launched
near St Valentines Day and uses a red rose to represent the number
of deaths of young people on the region's roads. For more
information for young drivers please contact the Road Safety Team
on 01733 453417.
