How do I report a racial incident?
Peterborough City Council takes complaints of hate related
incidents very seriously and are working in partnership with
Cambridgeshire Constabulary to make Peterborough a safe place to
live, work and learn. The council is a member of the 'Open Out!'
Partnership which operates a scheme for the reporting of hate
crimes. A hate crime is any incident which is perceived to
be aggravated by motives directed at a person or group of persons
(or property associated with such a person or group) by reason of
hatred of his or her race, religion, or lack of religion, sexual
orientation or other identifiable characteristic. Hate
Crimes include harassment, which is a form of discrimination, and
can involve:
- sexual harassment
- racial harassment
- harassment due to immigration status
- harassment due to disability
- harassment due to sexuality
- harassment due to religion or belief
- harassment due to age
However, this is not a full list.
If you have a complaint about a council service and believe
that a hate crime has taken place then please report this to a
council employee who will complete a hate crime reporting
form. The incident will be treated as a complaint and
dealt with under the council's Corporate Complaints Procedure. If
this is the first time you have complained about the incident, your
complaint will be sent to the relevant service manager to
investigate.
If you would like more information or a copy of the hate crime
reporting form please contact the
Community Safety team.
