Peterborough City Council is working in partnership with Peterborough Primary Care Trust and other local partners on improving the co-ordination of travel and transport arrangements across health, social care, education and leisure services.

Key issues that were identified to be addressed were:

  • To improve patient transport services, by updating eligibility criteria and issuing the guidance on commissioning transport.
  • To improve the advice and information available to patients, by allowing patients to choose the time and place of healthcare appointments and developing options for a one-stop shop of appointment and transport booking.
  • To promote accessibility considerations in decisions on healthcare infrastructure.

A joint funded two-year post has reviewed current transport arrangements undertaken by the local authority, NHS trusts and community transport operators. Transport integration remains a high priority on both the local authority's and local health trust's efficiency plans and has been given the support and backing of chief executives and local members.

Please find below a copy of the project initiation document, together with a copy of the project summary and the results of a consultation event with the main transport providers.
