Discarded needles and syringes can be a danger to everyone. To help us reduce the risk caused by needles you can report dumped needles to us at any time via our new online form.  Click here to access the form.  Alternatively phone Peterborough Direct on 01733 747474 during normal working hours, email us at street.cleansing@peterborough.gov.uk, or for out of hours, report to the city council on 01733 425300.

What is the council doing about discarded syringes?

We are working hard to reduce the risk from discarded needles by undertaking joint projects with other professional groups.

 

How soon are discarded needles dealt with?

Needle collections are treated as a high priority and will be dealt with quickly, usually within a few hours.


Where can I dispose of needles?

Contact your doctor's surgery or local health centre for advice.

 

What should I do if I find a needle?

If you find a needle, call us. We do not recommend handling the needle yourself.
 

What if someone is injured by a used needle?

If someone is injured by a used needle then:
 
  • squeeze the wound to make it bleed 
  • do not suck the wound
  • wash the wound with soap and water 
  • contact your doctor or Accident and Emergency department for immediate advice
