Discarded needles and syringes can be a danger to everyone. To help us reduce the risk caused by needles you can report dumped needles to us at any time via our new online form. What is the council doing about discarded syringes?
We are working hard to reduce the risk from discarded needles by undertaking joint projects with other professional groups.
How soon are discarded needles dealt with?
Needle collections are treated as a high priority and will be dealt with quickly, usually within a few hours.
Where can I dispose of needles?
Contact your doctor's surgery or local health centre for advice.
What should I do if I find a needle?
What if someone is injured by a used needle?
- squeeze the wound to make it bleed
- do not suck the wound
- wash the wound with soap and water
- contact your doctor or Accident and Emergency department for immediate advice
