Street Litter

 

Peterborough City Council undertakes cleansing duties using mechanical and hand sweeping techniques. 

 

Litter Picking

The Street Cleansing regime is to litter pick to the standard set out in the Environmental Protection Act 1990. A large sweeping team carries out these duties.
 

Manual Sweeping

This is undertaken by the same operatives within the litter picking team as and when required.

Mechanical Sweeping

The city council provides one large sweeper, three medium sweepers, six small sweepers and one small footpath sweeper.

 

The district is divided into areas with an allocated sweeper working initially to routes.
 

Litter Bins

Bins are emptied, depending on location and use between three times a day to once per week. City centre bins are emptied on a daily basis and as and when required.  All bins are cleansed and disinfected.
