Local Agenda 21
In 1992 at the Rio Earth Summit, the world's governments considered jointly how to reverse the damage to the global environment and put into practice the concept of sustainable development. The plan to solve these problems on an international scale was named Agenda 21. The Rio declaration recognised that actions at government level alone cannot provide all the solutions. There needs to be action at a local level, by local government, businesses and ordinary people. These local responses are called Local Agenda 21s. The Peterborough Environment City Trust (P.E.C.T.) has been set up by Peterborough City Council, the business sector, voluntary organisations and interested individuals to bring forward a Local Agenda 21 for Peterborough
