Peterborough's Green Grid

Natural Networks has evolved from the merging of the Green Grid Partnership Steering Group and Peterborough's Natural Environment Specialist Working Group (SWG). The Natural Environment SWG group was responsible for monitoring and assisting in the delivery of Peterborough's Natural Environment Audit which was completed in 1996. It is now considered that this group has an important role to play in delivering aspects of the Green Grid Strategy on a local level.

The Peterborough Green Grid Strategy has now been produced by The Landscape Partnership. The strategy brings together GIS databases of a wide range of environmental assets and it analyses these to identify gaps and opportunities in the ecological and recreational networks.

It is envisaged that the strategy will be an important document to inform the preparation of the City Council's Core Strategy Policies and Local Development Documents. It is hoped that future developers will look to the strategy for guidance on how new developments fit into the overall action plan and ensure that the growth planned for Peterborough goes hand in hand with the protection and provision of high quality green infrastructure. The strategy and action plan will also underpin funding bids from the Natural Networks partners.

Photographic Competition

Natural Networks launched its photographic competition back in April with the aim of enticing the city's residents out to explore the plethora of parks and open spaces across Peterborough. The competition proved very successful and the winning photos proved that not only have we got some really great photographers here but that we live in a very beautiful part of the world. The winners were chosen by a judging panel consisting of representatives from the Peterborough Photographic Society and Natural England.
