Ongoing
Projects
The Street Wardens are currently working on many projects as
well as regularly patrolling the city centre.
Below are a couple of examples of the projects:
Cyclists on Bridge Street
The Street Wardens work continually alongside the Police in
reminding cyclists to dismount from their cycles in Bridge
Street. Cycling is prohibited in Bridge Street
from 9am to 6pm Monday to Saturday and can incur a £30 fixed
penalty notice from the Police. The Street
Wardens receive many requests to stop cyclists who are creating a
danger to themselves and pedestrians when they cycle through the
busy street.
In an incident last summer the Street Wardens assisted a lady
who had received minor injuries to her legs when two young cyclists
knocked her over as she came out of the Limon Café in Bridge
Street.
Junior Street Wardens
Children attending Bishop Creighton School have been specially
selected to become Junior Street Wardens in a scheme launched in
the Spring of 2004 to encourage children to participate in
environmental projects in and around the city centre.
The Junior Wardens have taken part in planting bulbs and trees
in and around the embankment area, Stephenson Court and Cathedral
Square. They have helped to clear litter from
various areas including their own school grounds and are encouraged
to report issues needing attention to the Street Wardens that they
see when they are out and about with their friends.
