Recent Accomplishments
The Street Warden team deal with a wide spectrum of incidents each day, below are some successes the team have enjoyed over the last 6 months.
Air Soft Days
In an effort to build relationships and good channels of communication with local young people the Street Warden team have organised several Air Soft Days. This is similar to paintballing and encourages team work, communication and physical fitness. There have been several events held so far which have proved to be extremely popular with the participating youngsters rushing to pay the fees as soon as a date has been announced. The initiative has even attracted the attention of the national press.
Anti Social Behaviour
The Street Wardens continue to work towards creating a safe city centre for residents, workers and visitors. They continue to challenge anti social behaviour including drug and drink related activities. The Warden team work closely with the Council's ASBO (Anti Social Behaviour Order) team and the Police and provide evidence when necessary to help to obtain and enforce restrictions imposed on those who persistently behave inappropriately.
Thank you letters
The Street Warden team receive many thank you letters and cards. Recent expressions of thanks have inlcuded:
- return of lost handbag
- return of lost mobile phone (containing irreplacable photographs)
- assisting an injured lady whilst awaiting an ambulance
- adminstering first aid to a man who had suffered a heart attack
- dealing quickly and efficiently with a case of unreasonable behaviour in the Town Hall reception
- retrieving a disabled drivers keys from where they had been dropped down a drain
- assisting to ensure the smooth running of the Scouts St Georges Day and Freedom of the City parade, along with ensuring the safety and well being of 100's of participants and spectators
- attending and assisting the Slavery Abolition Anniversary event on Cathedral Square
