About Archives
What we do
.jpg)
The Peterborough Archives Service acquires, preserves and provides access to archive materials relating to Peterborough for the use of present and future generations. Collections that are available have been catalogued according to the General International Standard Archival Description (2000) and are kept in storage conditions that meet British Standard 5454: Recommendations for the storage and exhibition of archival documents.
The future of the Archives Service is in your
hands. Let us know what you think!
What can be donated to the archive service?
As we seek to build up our own archive collection, we will be
actively seeking to collect:
- Peterborough City Council's own records and those of its predecessors - where appropriate.
- Records of organisations, businesses, societies, private institutions, individuals and activities that are part of the history and life of the City and fall within the boundaries of our unitary authority
We have developed a detailed collecting policy and
guidelines for donators and depositors to indicate what we are
interested in taking in, and any conditions that may apply. If you
have any material suitable for donation or deposit, please contact
the Archives
Service Team for an informal discussion.
