Family History


Peterborough Central Library has a wealth of material available for those who are interested in finding out about their ancestors. Most of this material covers PeteMother and baby, 1910rborough and its surrounding area. It is held in printed, microfilm, microfiche or CD-ROM formats.
 
With the Internet now available, the fields for research have opened up to include sources from all over the world. Every Peterborough library offers free access to the Internet and holds books on family history to borrow.
 

Ancestry.Com

Peterborough Libraries now subscribes to this popular family history web site.  You can find census, birth, marriage, death records and more on Ancestry.com.
 
Free access to Ancestry.com is only available from Peterborough Libraries by using a People's Network computer in one of our libraries.

Family History Taster Sessions

Are you interested in family history but not sure where to start?  Or have you started doing your family tree but are struggling with all the different sources available?

 

If yes, then our family history taster session is for you.  The sessions are intended for absolute beginners and are designed to introduce people to the principal sources for family history in various media (printed, microform and internet).

 

We hope to continue these sessions from October 2008

 

All sessions run from 5.30-7.30 in the Central Library (Learning Zone, First Floor) and cost £5 per head (no concessions).
 
Places must be booked in advance and are limited to 8 per session.  To reserve your place please phone 01733 864280 (ask for Enquiries) or come in person to the Enquiries Desk (First Floor, Central Library).

 

Magazines

The following magazines have been moved into the Local Studies and Archives Room:

  • Local History News
These are available on the open shelves and can be browsed whenever the library is open.
