Patient Choice / Choose and Book
Patient choice in the NHS
The NHS is changing to give you more choice and flexibility in
how you are treated. Choose and Book is one of the first schemes
that brings about this change, allowing you to choose the hospital
where you will be seen by a specialist.
When you and your GP agree that you need to see a specialist,
you will be able to choose the place, date and time of your
appointment.
For more information about choosing your hospital visit the NHS Choices website.
How does Choose and Book
work?
Choose and Book shows GPs and patients which hospitals and
clinics are available for each specialty, together with a list of
available appointments. Once an appointment request has been made,
patients have several ways to get information to help them decide
where they would like to be treated:
- The patient can call the Choose and Book Appointments Line to obtain information 0845 608 8888.
- The patient can visit the Choose and Book patient website.
- The practice staff can provide the patient with information.
Patients can book their appointment outside the practice,
either by calling the Appointments Line, or by using the
NHS
Healthspace website.
