Peterborough's Library Strategy

Peterborough is changing and the time has come to take stock of where our library service is.  The city's underlying driver "Growing the right way for a bigger better Peterborough" has resulted in the need to plan strategically for a service that will serve and assist Peterborough and its residents during this period of growth and beyond.

The Draft Library Strategy looks towards modernisation, growth and development, building on current strong foundations such as excellence in customer service and the positive role libraries play in local communities.

We would like to invite you to read the Draft Library Strategy and let us know what sort of Library Service you want in Peterborough.

Values Statement

The Library Service is part of Peterborough City Council's Community Services department.

Our Libraries are places of opportunity, opening doors for personal growth, raising aspirations, improving quality of life and empowering people. Providing free, safe, inclusive and welcoming spaces for all - children, young people, families and the older people.

Our ambition is:
To be the place people think of, and come to for:

  • Reading for inspiration, pleasure, knowledge, and personal growth

  • Learning through informal and stimulating learning activities for individuals, families and communities. Raising confidence, skills and aspirations to create a lifelong love of learning for all.

  • ICT for access to the information highway as well as for developing skills to play a full role as an e-citizen

  • Quality information and the expertise to find and use it well

  • Community events/spaces that are welcoming, safe and non-judgmental for all sections of the community and reflect the unique cultural diversity of Peterborough.

We are committed to the e-government agenda and are working with Peterborough Direct, the council's one stop shop to ensure access to council information.

All our libraries are connected to the People's Network and are UK Online Centres.
