Library Link Service
Library Link is Peterborough Library's home-delivery service
for people who are having significant difficulty getting to a
library themselves because of health or mobility problems or
because of caring responsibilities.
Anne Evans, Library Link's co-ordinator, makes an initial
visit to find out what the reader needs and then matches him/her
with a volunteer. The volunteer goes to the local library once a
month to choose books for the reader and then visits him at home to
change his books or tapes.
Current Library Link readers say that the service makes a
great difference to their quality of life, giving them not only a
regular supply of fresh reading matter but also a friendly visit to
look forward to.
There is an ongoing need to recruit volunteer Library Visitors
for this popular service. The ideal volunteer is someone who enjoys
reading and is:
- Reliable
- Trustworthy and discreet
- Caring
- Good at listening and communicating
- Able to relate to a wide variety of people
- Physically capable of handling materials which can be heavy
