Biographic notes of the Deputy Mayor
Councillor Nawaz was elected Deputy Mayor for the year at a Full Council Meeting held on 19 May 2008
Councillor Gul Nawaz was first elected to represent the
Ravensthorpe Ward for Peterborough City Council in May 2002.
He was re-elected again in 2004 and 2008 for
the same ward.
During this time he has sat on several committees including
Planning, Licensing 2003 and chaired the Adult Social Services
Committee. He represents the Council on the Peterborough Racial
Equality Council, Gladstone District Community Association and St
John's Hall Community Association. The Consort to the Deputy Mayor
is Mr Akbar Sait.
The Deputy Mayor was born in Azad Kashmir in Pakistan on 25
December 1955 to a farming family and moved to live in Peterborough
in 1969. He worked at Redring Electric from 1974 to 1996 and
Peterborough District Hospital from 1996 to 2002. Since being
elected in 2002 he has worked as a full time
councillor. In 2004, Councillor Nawaz was
elected to be a Member of Bretton Parish
Council.
