About the Planning Service


There are 3 divisions making up the Planning Service:
 
Planning Policy - is responsible for the Statutory Development Plan, which provides policies to guide and encourage future development in the City.  Planning Policy is also responsible for development briefs and other guidelines, and measures to protect and improve the environment.
 
Planning Control
  • processing of planning applications,
  • taking account of City Council policies and briefs
  • government guidance
  • the individual merits of each scheme, in order to control development in the City in the public interest
 
Building Control - ensures that building works comply with the health, safety, energy conservation and access for the disabled requirements, as laid down in the Building Regulations and Building Acts.
 
The Planning Control Service is split into 3 teams for householder, business and strategic development applications.
