A1139 Fletton parkway Junction 2-3 widening and footbridge scheme
In April 2006, £7.1 million was allocated Community
Infrastructure Funding by the Department for Transport and the
Department for Communities and Local Government, for the widening
of Fletton Parkway between junction 2 and 3, and the provision of a
footbridge between the Orton Township and Hampton.
The A1139 Fletton Parkway experiences traffic queues and
delays at peak periods between junctions 2 and 3, and also at the
junction 3 roundabout. These queues and delays are expected to
worsen as a result of forecast traffic growth brought about by the
continued development at Hampton and the future provision of the
Hampton Western Peripheral Road.
The scheme proposal provides a third lane in both directions
between junction 2 and 3 and the roundabout at junction 3 will be
signalised and widened to three lanes. The provision of the
footbridge will provide a vital link between the Hampton and Orton
housing areas, and will fit in with the proposed road realignment
and it is anticipated that this will be built at the same
time.
Construction of the scheme is planned to start in July 2007,
with the scheme completed in March 2008.
