Citizens Panel - Spring 2006

This is an update to the Citizens Panel results where, in Spring 2006, Peterborough City Council sent questionnaires to over 1700 Peterborough residents. The purpose was to test public opinion on our strategic priorities, satisfaction levels covering a wide range of issues and services, and review the way we provide those services to you.
We will be arranging a further survey later this year, asking you similar questions, so we can identify and measure any changes in the results, to improve further our services to you.
We identified a number of common themes that we need to
focus on and improve. The highlighted main areas of
concern are:
customer
service: some respondents were unhappy
with the level of customer service they received from us
nuisance issues such as rubbish and
graffiti: respondents told us they would like to know
more about what we are doing to tackle these issues
affordable
housing: respondents would like more informtion
about the affordable housing opportunities available to
residents
culture, leisure, and sports
facilities: respondents would like to know more about our
plans for improving and increasing facilities
involvement in community
groups: we know that not many people in the community,
particularly younger respondents, are involved with local community
groups
engagement in council
decision-making: some respondents told us they do not
feel able to get involved in council decision-making and would like
to know more about this area
awareness of growth plans and
opportunities: although many people know generally about
the plans for growth in the city, you want to know more about what
this means for you
We are continuing to feed these focus areas into
our business planning processes, ensuring that the
services we provide meet the needs of you, our
customers. A newsletter has been sent to panel
members; we have held focus groups at the Town Hall
on engagement in council decision-making, young people's
involvement in community groups, and the lack of awareness of
culture, leisure, and sporting facilities.
We value your contributions, as it is important to us that we
use your council taxes appropriately, and provide services which
you, as residents, expect or would like to see. We will update
you from time to time in the 'Your Peterborough
newspaper', and on our website http://www.peterborough.gov.uk/.
