Statement of Community Involvement

In 2004, the Government introduced a new planning system through the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act. One of the main requirements of this new system is that the community should be more involved in the planning process. Consequently, all local planning authorities are required to prepare a Statement of Community Involvement (SCI). The SCI explains how we will consult residents, businesses, parish councils and other community groups before making decisions on planning applications and when preparing new planning documents.

The Peterborough Statement of Community Involvement was adopted at the full council meeting held on 27, Februrary 2008.

Inspector's Report

Previously the Peterborough SCI had been submitted to the Secretary of State in May 2007. At the same time we carried out a six-week period of public consultation. At the end of the consultation period, on 20, June 2007, we received some representations. All the representations received were sent to the independent Planning Inspector who had been appointed to examine the SCI. An informal hearing on the SCI was held on 21, November 2007.

Following the informal hearing, the Council received the Inspector's binding report on 5, December 2007. The Inspector was satisfied that all the legal requirements for the preparation of the document were met and in particular that its preparation accorded with the Local Development Scheme (LDS). He concluded that subject to minor changes being incorporated into the final SCI, the document was sound.

The Inspector's binding report is available to view or download.

The SCI forms part of the Peterborough Local Development Framework (LDF) and all documents produced as part of the LDF process will be prepared in accordance with the standards set out in the SCI.
