Reusing your waste

Reusing and recycling are often considered to be the same but
they are quite different.
Recycling is where items or waste material
undergoes some kind of reprocessing to make it into something
new.
Reusing is taking goods and materials
which may no longer be wanted or are broken and repairing them or
using them in their original form for something else.
How can we reuse?
There are plenty of things we can do to reuse our waste and
save throwing it away!
- If you have items which you no longer have a use for but somebody else might try and sell or swap these items. Internet auction sites such as swap and sell are a great way to do this.
- Repair broken items and damaged clothes rather than buying new ones
- Reuse containers for storage like glass jars for pen pots or ice cream containers and margarine tubs for storage and packed lunch boxes
- Give your unwanted clothes, books, toys etc to charity shops
- Take a reusable cotton bag with you when you go shopping to save on carrier bags
Choose2Reuse
Choose2Reuse is a consumer campaign to
encourage the general public to:
- increase the amount of good quality material donated and
- encourage more people to reuse second-hand goods

Swap and sell
The RECAP Swap & Sell service is based on the principle
that one persons waste is another's treasure! The Swap &
Sell is a free online exchange service where you can access
details about unwanted or surplus items and view requests for
wanted goods. It's main aim is to help you to get rid
of your unwanted items or enable you to find goods that others no
longer need at no cost. Log
onto Swap and sell
and see what treasure you can find in your local
area.
