Training with the Peterborough Safeguarding
Children Board (PSCB)
All staff, working in a setting where there are children and young people, must be able to respond to support and protect them in a child centred manner. Working Together to Safeguard Children 2006 describes how this can be best supported by two types of training:
- single agency training carried out by a particular agency for its own staff
- inter-agency training which is for employees of different agencies who either work together formally or come together for training or development.
Three levels are specified:
- Level one - Introductory Safeguarding Training
- Level two - Advanced Safeguarding Training
- Level three - Specialist Safeguarding Training
The PSCB Strategic Training Group has recognised
that some single agencies will not be in a position initially
to provide introductory safeguarding training (Level 1) and
therefore PSCB will continue to provide a limited number of
courses.
The inter-agency safeguarding training provided
by the PSCB creates a valuable opportunity for practitioners to
come together, share their knowledge and experience in a safe and
stimulating learning environment. PSCB has developed a varied
programme of courses planned to support professionals and
volunteers in
their work to safeguard and promote the welfare
of children and young people in Peterborough. To meet statutory
requirements, refresher training will be provided throughout the
year.
