No matter whether you are leaving school this academic year, in
Year 9 choosing your subjects, looking for another job or
planning on going to university you will need to think carefully
and do some research
Here are some links to other websites that will help you find
out information on different careers and help you decide what
occupation suits you the best.
I need help in deciding what to do
Kudos & Careerscape
These are on-line programs that give you lots of information on
occupational areas. Kudos has a questionnaire to find out what your
interests and abilities are and then gives you suggestions of
suitable jobs based on your responses. Careerscape links careers to
school subjects and job families. You need a user name and password
to log onto the Cascaid
website so you will need to use this resource at your
school/college or at the Connexions Youth Access Point in the
Central Library.
Careersbox & icould
Careersbox
is a free online video library of careers related film, news and
information. Case study videos show people
doing real jobs, giving insight into careers across all
sectors and helping young people find the right career.
An alternative resource is icould. The icould
storytellers relate, in their own words, their career journeys.
From landscape gardeners to web designers; they talk about
what they do, what it’s like, how they came to be where they are
and their hopes for the future.
The Stamford test
The Stamford Test is a short
on-line questionnaire which can help to match
your interests and abilities to higher education subjects. Many
students find this extremely helpful when trying to make up their
minds.
I need information on careers and options
choice
eclips
This on-line
resource has over 350 articles in a factsheet presentation. There
is a wide range of information on occupations and general topics
such as working abroad or choosing your options. You need a user
name and password so you will need to use this resource at your
school/college or at the Connexions Youth Access Point in the
Central Library.
National Careers Service
A free on-line resource for those wishing to find out
more about jobs and careers is the National
Careers Service website. Although
primarily designed for adults it can still prove useful for
young people.
