Peterborough's Street Bus aimed at helping young people has
received a cash boost to put it back on the road
The bus was launched in April 2010 by crime reduction charity
Nacro to help target areas with high levels of anti-social
behaviour, and visited hot spots around the city. Funding ran
out in March 2011, but now Enterprise Peterborough is to sponsor
the project.
The bus is staffed by experts who can offer advice to
16-24 year olds on health, realtionships and education in
a fun and engaging environment. It also contains
entertainment consoles, music desks and video editing facilities as
well as space for one to ones.
At the launch in Cathedral Square Dave Martin, regional managing
director of Enterprise Peterborough said "The Street Bus was
being stored at our depot and it was such a shame it was not used
as it was popular and effective. We're delighted it is now
back on the road. We look forward to it bringing a
great deal of pleasure to as many young people as possible in
Peterborough, and to its future being secured."
Gill Balwinder, area Manager for Nacro said "The Street Bus is a
fantastic facility to take services directly to where they are
needed in our community. We are very grateful to
Enterprise Peterborough and the council who have helped
the bus to get to where it is needed."
City council deputy leader, Councillor Matthew Lee said "The
contrast between the sights and sounds of the Street Bus and the
backdrop of the Cathedral said it all for me. While the city
is steeped in history, we're also verty young and vibrant and
prepared to tackle modern issues in innovative
ways."
