
Peterborough Youth Council (PYC) brings together
representatives aged 11 to 19 from secondary
schools’, colleges, and other groups of young people to campaign on
issues affecting them and to feedback on matters put before them by
Peterborough City Council.
Two representatives are chosen from each school, college, and
youth forum. Members are also now invited attend independently if
they are employed, unemployed, Apprentices, from youth clubs or
other youth groups, or from any group or centre where you want to
be able to represent the views of young people.
PYC works closely with the members of UK Youth Parliament,
Peterborough City Council, local media, the Police, and
Neighbourhoods committees.

Peterborough Youth Council Meetings
Planning meetings. PYC meets every
fortnight to plan campaigns and co-ordinate responses to
consultations. The dates and venues of Planning meetings are
shown below.
Tuesday 17 January 5:00 to 6:00 pm in the Council Chamber, Town
Hall, Bridge Street
Full formal meetings of all members. Then
the full Peterborough Youth Council meets formally every two months
in the Council Chamber at the Town Hall.

2012 Objectives
This year PYC is keen to make a real difference on issues that
are affecting the health, safety, and potential of young people, so
are campaigning on the following issues:
1. Drugs and Alcohol abuse
To increase understanding of drug and alcohol problems in young
people, such as underage or binge drinking and drug or substance
abuse; to improve awareness of the support available.
2. Sexual Health
To increase awareness of sexual health in young people and
consequences of teenage pregnancy; to work with health
organisations and relevant groups to increase understanding of the
support available.
3. Anti social behaviour and knife crime
To address the causes of anti-social behaviour and knife crime
and work to improve community cohesion.
4. Support all young people to achieve their full potential
To work to improve information, advice, and support that
prevents and/or reduces the number of young people not in
education, employment, or training (NEET); to support vulnerable
groups to ensure they have equal access to opportunities
available.
5. Protect Youth Services
To identify and protect services that support vulnerable young
people, and protect services and activities that are needed by
young people.

PYC are:
Hampton College, Jack Hunt School, St John Fisher, Nene Park
Academy, Stanground College, Arthur Mellows Village College, Ken
Stimpson Community School, The Kings School, Thomas Deacon Academy,
The Peterborough School, The Voyager School, Peterborough Regional
College, Central Peterborough, East Peterborough, South
Peterborough, Gladstone Community Centre, Peterborough Sixth Form
Union, Apprentices and employed young people.
We are looking for members from:
Ormiston Bushfield Academy, Phoenix Special School, Heltwate
Special School, Nenegate Special School, City College Peterborough,
Alternative Provision Providers, unemployed young people or those
not in education or training, and anyone from the North, West, or
Rural areas of Peterborough.
