The Eight Point Interview Plan
This applies equally to jobs and interviews universities may ask
you to attend as part of your UCAS application.
1) Plan your route to the
interview.
Use the internet and print out a map using the
post code. Give yourself plenty of time to get
there. Remember, it is better to be
half an hour early than five minutes late.
2) Check you have everything you
need. This sounds obvious but you may need:-
- bus fare
- exam
certificates
- invitation to interview
- mobile phone
3) Find out as much as you
can about the course or job you have applied for.
Use the internet or local library.
4) Pay attention to your
appearance. Choose clothes that are smart and fairly
conservative.
5) Read your job
application briefly before you go. The interviewer
is likely to ask a question about what you have written
6) Think about some of the
questions you may be asked. You cannot anticipate
everything but you might be asked questions broadly similar
to:-
What interests you about the job or
course?
Have you any relevant experience, or how
do the subjects you have studied relate to the job or
course?
What are your strengths or
weaknesses?
What qualities or skills are
required? The job description or advert will give you some
clues here.
7) Be honest and do not
lie. Show what you have learnt from any
mistakes.
8) Think of a question to
ask. This shows interest and enthusiasm. It
could be about your duties or the content of the course. Try
not to ask about pay as this gives a wrong impression.
