A letter of application or covering letter usually accompanies
a Curriculum Vitae (C.V.)
A letter of application introduces you to an
employer. You can highlight personal achievements, exam grades and
reasons for applying for the job very briefly, but do not duplicate
any C.V. you may send. It is usual to send a letter of
application with a C.V. to identify the vacancy you are interested
in, but not with an application form as this will have a reference
number and job title on it.
Letters to “Dear Sir” or “Dear Madam”
end “Yours faithfully”. Letters to a named person end,
“Yours sincerely.”
It is usual to word process your letter.
If you send it via email take as much care over it as if you were
sending it by post.
