Troy Dean apprentice Stuart
Green groundsperson
So you wake up on a lovely cool Sunday morning and as you walk
past the football pitches at the Riverside Pavilion, a thought may
cross your mind about how good it looks as the dew glistens on the
surface. The football pitches don’t look this good with no effort,
Stuart puts in a lot of effort every week to achieve this
perfection and now, he has an Apprentice!
Troy Dean (19) will be working towards a level 2 NVQ
qualification in Horticulture specialising in sports turf. This
will include topics like preparing the ground for the seed,
maintaining the condition of the sports surfaces to maintaining the
machinery! ‘Troy is very keen and enthusiastic and can’t wait
to get on with his qualifications.’ said Margaret O’Neill from
On-Site training who will supply the training for the
apprenticeship.
The Riverside Pavilion has partnered with Peterborough City
Council’s 8-19 Service and Cross Keys Homes to provide support in
this unique project. The idea is to pass on skills to the next
generation so that young people are mentored to become tomorrows
accomplished and competent workers.
‘There is a wealth of knowledge that Stuart can pass on that
covers not just grounds keeping but also life experiences. It would
be a waste not to share this knowledge. We fully intend to expand
the programme to accommodate a few more young people as this has
proven to be a great success so far,.’ said Allison Sunley, Head of
the 8-19 Service.
