Course for young mums offers first aid training
The girls were initially contact by myself, Sukaina and Anita
(8-19 service) to access a free St Johns First Aid course.
The course was delivered by the 8-19 Service and hosted by Kat Band
in partnership with the East Children’s centre who provided a free
crèche with refreshments and help with transport.
The aims were to give confidence in handling
first aid situations, provide details of how to access childcare
and give an opportunity to meet with other teenage parents.
It is hoped the girls will continue to access support
offered through the Children’s Centre, and some participate
in forthcoming parenting courses in consultation with tutors
from City College Peterborough.
All of the girls that attended have successfully completed the
St Johns Young First Aiders Course and obtained a certificate.
The young mothers commented, “Enrolling onto the young parents
first aid course has built up our confidence, and given us
information about how to cope with accidents that can occur within
the home. The course has shown us how to ensure a safe
and happy home for ourselves and our children. We would definitely
recommend this course to other young parents.”
