Work experience gives you an insight into the world of
work
During your time at school or college you may do work experience
with a local employer. This gives you the opportunity to get
a taste of a job and see what skills you’re going to need for the
world of work.
You may find a placement in the occupational area you
are interested in, but even if you do work expereince that may not
be your first choice, remember you will still learn about the
working environment.
A work experience placement could involve working full-time for
one or two weeks, or spending one, two or three days per week in
the workplace for anything from one term to two academic
years.
A placement may form part of your course if
you're doing a GCSE in a practical subject like engineering or art
and design. The new Diploma
qualification may also involve work
experience.
