Private fostering

Are you under 16, or under 18 with a disability, and live with family, friends or adults who are not close relatives?

A close relative is a parent, brother, sister, uncle, aunt, grandparent, or step parent.

If the answer is “Yes” this is known as private fostering, although this does not mean you are officially “in care”. Legally you must tell Peterborough City Council if this continues for 28 consecutive days or more. This is to make sure you are being cared for properly and are safe.

The Council will work alongside you and your carers to gather information and make sure the arrangement is suitable for your needs and safety. You and your carers will have someone to talk to on a regular basis whilst you are living away from your parents.

If you are being privately fostered contact the

Referral and Assessment Duty Officer on Tel:- 01733 – 864180 / 864170
