It is a criminal offence to discriminate against a person on
the basis of their race, colour or ethnic nationality under the
Race Relations Act 1976.
- Racial discrimination can include:-
- being refused a job or a place on a
course
- suffering from discrimination while trying to
buy something
- being discriminated against when trying to
rent somewhere to live
- being treated differently because of your
race when dealing with companies or government organisations.
- using abusive language or threatening
behaviour against others on the grounds of their race
- publishing or distributing racist
material.
If you are being bullied or victimised on the
grounds of race It is a good idea to write down the details of the
incident soon after they happen, so you have a record. This should
include who, what, when, where, how and why the event occurred.
If you think you are suffering from
discrimination on the grounds of race try speaking to someone you
trust, such as a parent, teacher or Connexions personal
adviser.
