Financial help with housing

Local Housing Allowance and Housing Benefit

This replaces Housing Benefit for private sector tenants.  The amount payable will be based on the 'middle of the range' rental figure for the area.  If you live in council accommodation or other social housing you will still get Housing Benefit.

Help with your mortgage

This is available as part of Income Support, Job-Seekers Allowance or Pension Credit.

Disability Reduction Scheme

A non-means tested reduction of the council tax bill for those who use a wheelchair indoors, or have a bathroom or other room specifically for the use of a disabled person.

Council Tax Discount / Second Adult Rebate / Council Tax Benefit

Council Tax Discount reduces your bill by 25% if there are less than two adults in the household.  There may be a Second Adult Rebate if you live with an adult other than your partner, who is on a low income (e.g. a son or daughter).  Council Tax Benefit helps those on a low income.

Disabled Facilities Grant

These are awarded where better access for the disabled is required in your home.  The maximum is £25,000.
