Batteries and electrical items

Domestic batteries cannot be placed in the black bin. There are battery collection bins located at most supermarkets around Peterborough, at Bayard Place and at the Householders Recycling Centre in Dogsthorpe.

As a general rule if it has a plug, uses batteries or needs recharging your item can be recycled at the Householders Recycling Centre or at various Recycling Bank Sites located across the city.

If an item has a crossed out wheelie bin symbol this means that it cannot be placed in your household bin and can be recycled.

Paint tins

Paint tins containing any paint cannot be placed in your black or green bin as they cause considerable damage and mess to the waste collection vehicles and facilities.

If your paint tin is fully or partially full you can donate the contents to local churches, community groups or schools or recycle it at the Householders Recycling Centre.

If your paint tin is empty then it can be disposed of in your black bin only.

I've got large items that won't fit in my bin
