How should I present my bin for collection
There are certain ways in which we ask residents to present
their bins for collection. Bins are to be placed out by
6.45 am on your designated collection day
only.
To find
out you collection day please visit our bin collections pages In a bid to clean up
Peterborough's streets the Council has rules on excess waste.
We are unable to collect excess waste placed next to the bin.
We are also unable to collect bins with excess waste that prevents
the lid from closing. People who leave rubbish or bins out on the
street face a fine (£100 fixed penalty notice). Offences in
relation to waste receptacles (Section 47 Environmental Protection
Act 1990). Any excess waste can be taken to the Householders
Recycling Centre.
I am unable to put my bin out for collection
Residents who are elderly or disabled and cannot place their own
bins out for collection may be eligible for our "pull out
service". Please call 01733 747474 for more information.
We are a large family
Households with 5 or more people may be entitled to additional
bin provisions. Extra provisions are assessed on an
individual basis. If you would like to apply for a extra bins
please call 01733 747474.
Batteries and electrical items
Domestic batteries cannot be placed in the black bin. There are
battery collection bins located at most supermarkets around
Peterborough, at Bayard Place and at the Householders Recycling
Centre in Dogsthorpe.
As a general rule if it has a plug, uses batteries or needs
recharging your item can be recycled at the Householders
Recycling Centre or at various Recycling Bank
Sites located across the city.
If an item has a crossed out wheelie bin symbol this means that
it cannot be placed in your household bin and can be
recycled.
Paint tins
Paint tins containing any paint cannot be placed in your black
or green bin as they cause considerable damage and mess to the
waste collection vehicles and facilities.
If your paint tin is fully or partially full you can donate the
contents to local churches, community groups or schools or recycle
it at the Householders Recycling Centre.
If your paint tin is empty then it can be disposed of in your
black bin only.
I've got large items that won't fit in my bin
If you have large bulky items that will not fit into your bin,
see our bulky
collection page.
