Have Your Say At Central And North Neighbourhood Committee

16 December 2011

Residents can find out more about community and voluntary groups which are working to improve the Central and North areas of Peterborough at a neighbourhood committee meeting in the Town Hall Reception Room, Bridge Street, Peterborough on Monday 19 December 2011 at 7pm.

Among the community and voluntary groups presenting at the meeting will be Gladstone Connect, Millfield and New England Regeneration Partnership, Victoria Park Residents' Association, Step UP and a group representing Muslim women.

People will also have the opportunity to sign up to the Peterborough Neighbourhood Champions scheme. Launched city-wide in September, Neighbourhood Champions are local volunteers who want to improve their communities by reducing crime, anti-social behaviour and hate crime.

The meeting will also be a chance for people to find out more about the city council's planned improvements to street lighting and bridges in the area. A display will show areas that were improved during the last year.

In addition, there will be an update on Operation CAN-do, a multi-agency ten-year project launched this year to revitalise the Millfield and New England areas of Peterborough. Residents will be asked for their opinions on the work which has taken place so far and for suggestions of what else can be done to improve the area.

Prior to the start of the meeting, residents will also be able to talk to their ward councillors about specific issues and concerns they may have. Councillors will be available to speak to residents from 6.30pm.

Peterborough City Council's Neighbourhood Manager for Central and East, Cate Harding, said: "There is a lot on the agenda for this meeting so I hope residents will attend and have their say on the issues that matter to them. There will also be the regular open sessions where residents can make comments and ask questions about issues which are not covered elsewhere on the agenda.

"People at the meeting will hear from a number of groups and organisations that are working hard to make life better for them and everyone else in the Central and North areas of the city. There is so much good work happening in the community, not least as part of Operation CAN-do, which residents can get involved with to help shape the area and embrace the unique offering it brings to our city."

Ends.
