Advice for male victims of Domestic Abuse

Not only women are victims of domestic abuse. Men can also be, and frequently are, victims of abuse in the home, either at the hands of their female partner or, in the case of same-sex relationships, their male partner.

You may feel you are the only man who has ever experienced domestic abuse but you are not alone. Abuse is a control issue – abusers believe they have the right to manipulate, control and humiliate another person.

If you are a man experiencing abuse from a male or female partner there are services available to access. Remember, men have exactly the same rights at women.

The Men’s Advice Line is a confidential helpline for men experiencing domestic abuse. Men can call for emotional support, practical advice and other services including legal advice centres, mental health, counselling services and housing advice.

It’s available on a freephone number (free from landlines and mobile phones) 0808 801 0327. Alternatively email info@mensadviceline.org.uk.
