A Facebook page designed to deliver harm reduction messages, updates and alerts for people in drug treatment services has been launched by the SaferPeterborough partnership.Facebook logo

‘Peterborough Harm Reduction Group’ has also been created for people who may know of someone who takes drugs. In addition, the page aims to attract drug users not known to the partnership’s drug treatment services.

The page is based on the work of the SaferPeterborough Harm Reduction Group, which formed in April 2010. The group shares information about harm reduction and produces targeted pieces of work and marketing campaigns in relation to harm reduction to ensure clear and consistent messages to people accessing drug treatment.

Whatever a person’s situation in relation to drugs, the page provides up-to-date information that could prevent an overdose, transmission of blood borne viruses and risk to themselves, their families or members of the public. There is also a guide of what to do in the event of overdose or injury.

To search for the page, simply type Peterborough Harm Reduction Group in the search box when on Facebook. To follow the page’s latest updates and advice, people need to click to ‘like’ the page and this will also allow leaving comments on pieces of information posted. There is a ‘house rules’ section, which indicates what the expectations are for those that accessing the page.
