Building Control is a mandatory service. Section 91(2) of the Building Act requires Local Authorities to enforce the Statutory Building Regulations.
To provide, through the administration of Building Regulations and allied legislation, a safe, healthy, energy efficient and accessible built environment. This is to secure compliance with the priorities outlined within the Council’s Best Value Performance plan relating to caring for the natural and built environment.
* To provide other public protection services, the principal objectives being to deal with dangerous structures, demolitions, acting as Proper Officer for Licensed Premises, public entertainment licensing consultation and to issue and monitor certificates for sports grounds designated by Safety at Sports Grounds legislation.
