Clean Air Act Approvals |
| Service Overview |
The Clean Air Act originally became law in 1956 in response to the London Smog in 1952. While the Act has been amended several times since the 1956 Act the ideals of reducing air pollution remain. The Clean Air Act gives local authorities the power to declare smoke control areas. In these areas it is illegal to burn non-compliant material in internal domestic fireplaces. To find out if you live in a smoke control area please contact the Pollution Team The Clean Air Act also prohibits industrial processes to emit dark smoke from their premises. To report a company that is emitting dark smoke please phone 01733 747474. Certain industrial boilers require authorisation from the local authority before they may be used. These authorisations are made by the Building Control team |
